Just a quick post to keep everybody up to date on our progress.  We are currently in Pacific City Oregon.  We should be headed on southward again tomorrow.  There’s still a lot of Oregon to go, but we’re starting to make some progress through it.

By the way, it’s come to our attention that we forgot to thank Dale for the awsome fire he made us back at the Peter Iredale.  400Very impressive Dale!

And now we head back out into the rain to walk the 1.5 miles to camp.

Transportaion

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Walking along the beach for this long you start to nitice a lot of things.  One of those things is the various ways people choose to move across the beach.  We obviously have choosen the slowest and most difficult means, other then riding a turtle.  This has at times made us envy the speedier modes of transportaion, but has also alowed us to enjoy the senery that others are flying past.  Since southern Washington those speedier modes have started to even include cars on the beach.  (Walking on the road and walking on the beach have been at times equally dangerous)  Watching people cruise by in their SUV’s does kind of make us miss the rugged inacesability of Washingtons Olympic Coast.  Other fun methods of beach travel we’ve seen have included ATV’s, quads, dirtbikes, horses, and even sandboards (think snowboard but without the snow)  And of course, with something as fun as sandboarding, we had to try it.  Deffinetly even more fun then it sounds.  Pat even did rather well, considering it was his first downhill board sport.  We had so much fun in fact that it drove us to develope our own sport for those of us without sandboards.  We call it throwing yourself down a steep dune!  and we can’t even use the excuse of being drunk)  We’re going to go try to finish getting all the sand out of everywhere, but check out the pics. Hopefully we can get some sequences up soon.  Until then, get out of your cars and walk on the beach.

Injury update post

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

To keep everyone up to date with all the stupid things we do, we thought we would update you on our most recent major injury.  Pat burned himself on some flaming oil on our camp stove.  Cold meat + hot oil = good times!

Dont worry, Pat survived and the jurney continues.  There will definetly be more stupidity to come.

Rockaway Beach update

Friday, April 9th, 2010
We are currently in Rockaway Beach Orgeon. Its a small town of about 1300 people. Not a whole lot to do but get hailed on and hang out in the library hiding from the high winds. Today is however the longest we have seen the sun shine since making it to Orgeon. We should be in Barview tonight, with hopes of looking for a boat ride arcross Tillamook bay. If we dont it will be another long highway andventure to get around the bay. At least there is a the Tillamook chesee factory we can tour if we dont get a boat ride and have to hike it. Thanks to some Wi-Fi we have been able to organize the photos into sections and add some captions to them as well. So enjoy the images while we go enjoy the last bit of sunshine.

They’re kicking us out of the coffe shop, so until nextime.

Seaside update

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

For the first time we have let weather chase us indoors. Between the weather predictions of a big storm hitting, and people warning us along the way about it, we decided to play it safe and hit the Seaside International Hostel. We did have one guy stop us on the road and sugest that we pitch our tent in the feild of a middle school playground….on a weekday. We decided with the beards we have going, that was going to need a lot of explaining in the morning. This has given us time to work on a few photos and to put this post up. These are some pictures of the Peter Iredale shipwreck before and during a storm with 25 foot surf.

Now we are headed out into the wind and rain toward the 1000 foot high Tillamook Head at Ecola state park. At least were told there are some kind of primitive shelters for us hiker/bikers there.

Our destination, the Tillamook Head
